What’s on the menu today at the Heritage Village blacksmith shop? Roast pork and bacon quesadillas. #dallasheritagevillage
February has been a hell of a month. Major surgery, snow storm, 36 hours without power, frozen pipes and a home improvement project that became way too complicated. I’m ready to put this month in the rear view. On the plus side, if we’ll enough to be back@at the forge at Dallas Heritage Village. #blacksmithing #dallasheritagevillage #goodlocalmarkets
99% success, I have a huge appreciation for my laparoscopic surgeon, I had to go in through the front of the bath and wanted the make the smallest possible hole to retile. 12 tiles out and a 12x16” hole and of course the new unit used entirely different fittings and is at a different height from the old one so I had to completely re-plumb the whole thing through hole. Hot water line shortened and cold water line lowered 1/2”. 16 separate soldered joints, 4 new copper elbows checked and rechecked. Turn the water on and no leaks. Almost, no static leaks, no flowing leaks through the tub, sadly one solder joint needs to be resoldered going up to the shower head. Tomorrow I’ll resolder that joint and go buy replacement tile. All in all, not a bad DIY day.
It’s always something. I made it through the freeze with no damaged pipes. The damned freeze did cause a slow leak in the bathtub, about a gallon an hour. Sadly I could not find a replacement cartridge for this off brand control head, so I bought a Moen and ripped out the wall to put a new one in. I should have it swapped out shortly and get the water back on, then patch and retile the wall.
Dammit, power off again, here’s the King Cake cinnamon rolls I made today before the power went out again.
Little miracles, all of the cold water taps in the house flowing now. Hot water is another issue though.
